SEEKING JUSTICE FOR PHILLIP WILLOUGHBY
11/27/2020-11/28/2020 HIGHWAY 231 MIDDLESEX NC
On the morning of November 28, 2020, Nash County Sheriffs Office and the State Highway Patrol responded to a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian on NC 231 in Nash County at the Middlesex City Limits. Upon arrival, Troopers discovered a deceased male who was identified as Phillip Lee Willoughby, Jr. of Middlesex. Mr. Willoughby had been struck by an unknown vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene after impact.
Investigators believe that he ran out of gas on the night of Nov. 27, 2020, left his car at a nearby Dollar General and was walking home when he was hit. A Middlesex police officer spoke to him that night, but Willoughby told him that he was waiting on a ride.
At last check the keys to his vehicle were never found. His cell phone was found several days later in an area that was already searched multiple times before.
